Choosing Single incision gastric sleeve Turkey is the preferred path for patients who need metabolic intervention but are deeply concerned about the aesthetic aftermath of abdominal scarring. While standard bariatric surgery is minimally invasive, it still leaves a map of small scars across the abdomen. At Clinic Care Center, we offer the advanced SILS (Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery) technique, allowing you to undergo a full sleeve gastrectomy through a single entry point that heals virtually invisibly.
One Port, Multiple Instruments: The SILS Technique
To understand how we can remove 80% of the stomach without leaving visible tracks, one must understand the technology of SILS. In standard laparoscopy, we make 4 to 5 separate incisions to insert a camera, staplers, and graspers. In Single Incision surgery, we make one slightly larger incision (approximately 2.5cm) deep inside the umbilicus (belly button).
Into this single opening, we insert a specialized “Multi-Port” device. This port allows the surgeon to insert the camera and articulating instruments simultaneously through the same hole. The surgery is performed entirely through this central access point. Once the procedure is complete and the incision is closed, the scar tucks deep inside the natural folds of the navel, making it virtually undetectable once healed.
Clinic Care Center: Expert Warning
Single Incision Surgery (SILS) is technically more difficult than standard laparoscopy because the surgeon has less room to maneuver instruments (‘sword fighting’ effect). Therefore, we strictly select patients for this method. If you have a very high BMI (>45), previous abdominal surgeries, or a very tall torso, you are likely not a candidate. Standard multi-port laparoscopy is safer for complex cases. We prioritize safety over the absence of scars.
Standard Laparoscopic Sleeve vs. Single Incision (SILS)
While the internal result (stomach reduction) is identical, the surgical approach and recovery nuances differ significantly.
| Feature | Standard Laparoscopy (5 Ports) | Single Incision (SILS) |
|---|---|---|
| Number of Scars | 4 to 5 small scars spread across the belly. | One hidden scar inside the belly button. |
| Pain Level | Mild to Moderate. | Slightly higher immediate pain due to the larger single muscle opening. |
| Hernia Risk | Low. | Slightly higher risk of umbilical hernia at the port site (incisional hernia). |
| Cosmetic Result | Visible dots that fade over time. | Virtually Invisible. Excellent for swimwear confidence. |
| Surgery Time | 45 – 60 minutes. | 60 – 90 minutes (Due to technical difficulty). |
Who Qualifies for SILS?
Because SILS restricts the surgeon’s range of motion, we must ensure the patient’s anatomy allows for easy access. Ideal candidates meet the following criteria:
- BMI Limit: Generally, this procedure is restricted to patients with a BMI under 40 or 42. In patients with higher visceral fat, the liver is often too heavy to retract safely with a single port.
- No Previous Surgery: If you have had multiple C-sections, appendectomy, or hernia repairs, you likely have internal adhesions (scar tissue). This makes SILS dangerous, and standard laparoscopy is preferred.
- Liver Compliance: Patients must follow the pre-op liquid diet strictly. A shrunken liver is mandatory; if the liver is fatty and large, we may have to convert to standard surgery for safety.
Frequently Asked Questions about SILS
Does it cost more?
Yes. The SILS method requires a specialized disposable multi-port device and articulating instruments that are more expensive than standard tools. It typically costs €500 – €800 more than a standard sleeve.
Is the weight loss the same?
Yes. The internal procedure is identical to a standard Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG). The surgeon removes the exact same amount of stomach (fundus), so the hormonal and restrictive effect is exactly the same.
What if the surgeon can’t finish with one hole?
Safety is always the priority. If visibility is poor or bleeding occurs, the surgeon will immediately place 1 or 2 extra “rescue ports” to complete the surgery safely. You will be informed of this possibility before surgery.
Is the recovery longer?
The hospital stay is the same (2-3 nights). However, the belly button area might be more sore for the first few days compared to standard small incisions.
Will my belly button look different?
It might look slightly wider or different initially due to swelling, but skilled surgeons close the incision to respect the natural shape of the umbilicus.
Can I do a bypass with SILS?
While technically possible in very specific hands, we rarely recommend SILS for Gastric Bypass due to the complexity of creating two anastomoses (connections) with restricted movement.
